Walker Professional Insurance is a boutique, independent property and casualty agency with a foundation built on more than six decades of expertise, integrity, and genuine community commitment. Family-owned and locally operated since 1960, the agency was founded by Douglas Walker, a dedicated Indianapolis fire battalion chief whose service-driven values and belief in doing right by others remain at the core of everything we do today.
The agency's growth was carried forward by his son, R. Douglas Walker, alongside a team of long-tenured associates who share that same commitment to clients. Under their leadership, Walker Professional has evolved into a recognized specialty agency serving municipalities, professional service firms, nonprofit organizations, and other complex industries that require more than off-the-shelf coverage.
Our commitment to clients doesn't stop at the policy. Walker Professional partners with key trade associations to develop a deep understanding of the industries we serve — using those insights to deliver strategic risk management advice, claims advocacy, and contract review services that go well beyond traditional insurance placement. This same commitment extends to active industry advocacy, where we work alongside our clients' trade associations to address emerging legal and regulatory challenges and help shape legislative outcomes that protect the businesses and sectors we proudly serve.
At Walker Professional, we believe that independence is an advantage. We are not beholden to quotas or corporate agendas — only to our clients. With a deep commitment to personalized service, we honor our founding legacy the same way we always have — one client relationship at a time.
At the heart of everything we do is our belief in:
Sharing Expertise. Building Relationships.
Doug is the Managing Partner of Walker Professional Insurance, bringing more than 50 years of industry experience, leadership, and a strong commitment to every client relationship.
Doug's accomplishments speak for themselves. He is a recipient of the prestigious Harry P. Cooper Jr lifetime achievement award, a two-time PIA Agent of the Year, and has held the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation for over 45 years. Under his leadership, Walker Professional Insurance was honored as Big I Agency of the Year.
His industry involvement runs deep. Doug has served on the Indiana Big I Board, held multiple leadership roles with the Professional Insurance Agents (PIA), sat on 15 insurance company advisory boards, and served four years on the Indiana Insurance Commissioner's Advisory Board. He has also represented the industry on an international stage, leading a People-to-People delegation that brought insurance professionals to China and the former USSR to engage with national insurance organizations.
Doug's expertise spans insurance and risk management, strategic planning, governance, and organizational leadership — complemented by decades of civic engagement and community advocacy at the local and state level.
A lifelong Indianapolis resident, Doug earned his business degree through evening programs at Indiana Wesleyan University and IUPUI. Today he remains actively involved in the agency alongside his wife and business partner, Kristen. Outside the office, the two enjoy snow skiing and biking across Greater Indianapolis and Colorado.

She currently serves as an associate member of the ACEC Indiana Board, where she continues to advance risk management standards across the industry.
Kristen began her insurance career at a national insurance carrier where she managed complex workers’ compensation claims. Charlie has been a dedicated insurance professional since 2008, with a career rooted in hands-on industry experience. Before focusing on the design professional community, Charlie built his foundation in construction and real estate development, serving as an internal risk manager for a national real estate development firm. That experience gave him a ground-level understanding of how projects are built, where risk lives within them, and what clients truly need from their insurance advisor — shaping the client-focused approach that defines his work today.
For nearly a decade, Charlie has channeled that foundation into serving the architecture and engineering community, developing deep expertise in professional liability, contract review, and risk management solutions tailored to the unique needs of design professionals. He understands the fast-paced design and construction industry and takes pride in being prompt and available to meet his clients’ demands.
Charlie is deeply engaged in the industries he serves. He has been actively involved with both AIA and ACEC, regularly presenting on risk management topics to help architects and engineers better understand and navigate the exposures they face every day.
A graduate of Wabash College, Charlie earned his degree with a double major in Psychology and Religion. Outside the office, he enjoys spending time with his wife and son, volunteering at The Village of Merici, and the occasional round of golf.
